While many people choose to keep their boat trips to sunny weather, you can go boating whenever you please! Wintertime boating trips can be very fun and peaceful, and you get to see nature in a whole new light. However, you do need to be prepared for dealing with the cold temperatures. Here are some things to keep in mind while you’re preparing for your winter boat trips.

Dress in Layers

Wearing layers of clothing is the best way to stay warm in the cold. Start by putting on some thermal underwear or leggings and a long-sleeved shirt. Add your pants, then a sweater and your coat. You can bring extra sweaters to add on or change into if your clothes get wet. Make sure your extremities stay warm by wearing a knit cap, insulated gloves, and wool socks.

Invest in a Heater

If you’ve got a cabin and a power source, you can keep yourself extra toasty with a marine heater. Make sure that whatever heater you choose is suitable for your boat’s power and that you monitor it while it’s on to keep it from tipping over.

Keep Yourself Fed & Hydrated

Don’t forget to bring plenty of food and water with you so you can stay energized and hydrated during your boat trip. Your body has to burn more calories in order to keep you warm in the cold, so stock up on sandwiches, crackers, cheese, nuts, cookies, and anything else that sounds good. You can fill up thermoses with soup, water, tea, coffee, or cocoa as well.
